Our Story

In December 1945, 150 young men and women embarked upon the ship called “Mataroa”, with Paris as their final destination. Their dramatic escape from war-stricken Greece was a traumatic experience that turned into creativity, marking the intellectual and artistic developments of postwar Europe. A passage from oblivion to memory of a generation and a journey that continues to inspire 70 years later.

The story of Mataroe: “Ροή” in Greek means constant movement, typically the movement of water in a river that brings change, renewal and freshness.

Mataroe was inspired by these two words aiming to bring a fresh air in women’s apparel expressing colorful identities, lively patterns and joy! Building bridges between the French aesthetics and Greek tradition, the world of Mataroe will unveil a vast collection of women’s apparel for every age, ethnicity and style.
